Australian Government Investigations Standards 2022

Australian Federal Police
Publication date
October 2022

The Australian Government Investigations Standard (AGIS) is intended to articulate Australian Government policy and is the foundational standard, framing accountability and security for entities conducting investigations relating to the government programs and legislation they administer.

AGIS 2022 was developed for Australian Government entities to ensure quality investigative practices and outcomes.

Noncorporate entities will be required to comply with AGIS to the extent it articulates Australian Government policy in accordance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.

When publishing the 2022 version of the AGIS, the AFP did not outline a date for entities to transfer their approaches from the requirements of the AGIS 2011 to the updated requirements in AGIS 2022. Instead, it advised entities should start a proactive implementation plan and prioritise actions/requirements to meet the standard where possible in a reasonable timeframe. Where this is not possible, the decision must be documented and can be audited.

For that reason, both the 2011 and 2022 versions of the AGIS will remain available on this site. For more information, visit the AFP's website.
