Discover what we're doing
The Commonwealth Fraud Prevention Centre within the Attorney-General's Department was established in July 2019 to strengthen the counter-fraud capability of Australian Government entities.
Since 2019 we have:
- delivered over 200 events, presentations and webinars on building up different aspects of counter fraud capability
- trained more than 300 counter-fraud practitioners through an award-winning program, with a 24% average annual increase in training participation from 2021-22 to 2025-26
- developed more than 50 leading-practice guides and innovative tools, with tens of thousands of product downloads per year and a 58% average annual increase in downloads from 2021-22 to 2025-26
- significantly updated the Commonwealth Fraud and Corruption Control Framework.
An independent review in 2026 found the Centre has 'succeeded in its mission to strengthen counter-fraud arrangements across the Australian Government' and is seen as 'a trusted, reputable and high-quality provider of training courses and provides comprehensive and foundational fraud prevention resources and guidance.'
Our new strategic objectives from 1 July 2026
The Centre received ongoing funding in the 2026-27 Federal Budget to continue and build on our important work to strengthen counter fraud arrangements across the Australian Government.
From 1 July 2026, our new strategic objectives are:
- Progress legislative reform to enable effective and coordinated responses to fraud risks.
- Drive policy and system solutions to key issues in fraud prevention
- Embed understanding and capability to prevent and measure fraud across the Australian Government.
- Support measures that modernise our response and have a tangible impact on fraud.
- Be a leading voice on counter fraud approaches across the Australian Government.
